Registration open: Green Cooling Summit 2022

One livestream, 3 days, 32 Speakers, 650+ registrations from 100+ countries and 330 questions from the audience – The Green Cooling Summit in May 2021 challenged but also excited our team.  This year there will be a new edition of the Summit, jointly organised by the German Environment Agency (UBA) and GIZ Proklima on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conversation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

This year’s focus: Green Cooling in Supermarkets

The global commercial refrigeration market is estimated to reach USD 43.16 billion by 2028. This corresponds to a compound annual growth rate of 4.2% (2021 to 2028), with supermarket refrigeration making up a major part. When planning new supermarkets, HFCs are often still used as standard refrigerants. Moreover, cooling systems typically account for about 40-60% of the total energy consumption in a supermarket. This does not only involve high cost, but massive GHG emissions due to fossil-fuel based electricity consumption as well as leakage of refrigerants with high global warming potential. There is a knowledge gap about the availability and enormous advantages of natural refrigerants and energy efficiency measures.

On 13 and 14 September for the Green Cooling Summit 2022! Policymakers, technology providers, project planners, supermarket operators and other stakeholders will present and debate enabling policies, state-of-the-art technologies, as well as best practices for planning, procurement, operation and maintenance to advance Green Cooling in supermarkets.

The objectives:

  • Enhance international awareness about green cooling potential and related SDG benefits in supermarket refrigeration
  • Inform about latest policy and technology trends in supermarket refrigeration
  • Create a platform for discussion and knowledge exchange
